Community Respite Centre Project Cancellation

November 2, 2018

Community Living Hamilton has made the difficult decision to cancel a building project and defer the fundraising campaign that was intended to fund it. We will not be developing a community respite centre, a plan that we initiated three years ago.

We remain firmly committed to addressing the ongoing need for more respite care in this community. However, we have conducted additional analysis and decided to consider other approaches.

Our goal is to find the very best solution for the clients and families who depend on us. We already provide a wide range of respite services, but we know that more capacity is required. We are exploring options such as repurposing existing buildings and/or collaborating with community partners.

As we work to reassess CLH’s opportunities to provide more respite care, we will welcome input from our clients, their families, community members, community leaders, and our partners in the social service sector. We believe that a community-wide solution to this issue will require collaboration and innovation.

We are grateful for the support we received for this initiative, and will hold all donations in trust in a secure investment so it will grow while we identify an alternate respite care strategy. However, we understand that some donors may wish to ask for a refund on their donations. Please note that we will abide by Canada Revenue Agency requirements. Donors can contact Kathia Lapointe at klapointe@clham.com or by phone at 905-528-0281 ext. 239 for more information.

Also, please don’t hesitate to call me at 905-528-0281 ext. 243, if you have any questions about CLH’s respite support services.
