Respite Services

Community Living Hamilton offers a variety of respite services, including day trips, overnight stays and cottage vacations.  There's something for everyone.  Many of our respite programs are available to the general public through fee-for-service.


Templemead - Respite for adult children who live at home.  Clients spend time in a small group setting in a home on the East Mountain - allowing for growth of social skills, friendship/relationship building and community participation.

Templemead offers day visits (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and overnight weekend stays (Friday 6:00 p.m. to Sunday 3:00 p.m.).

Costs include accomodation and meals and snacks during the stay.

Day visits - $140.00 per day

Weekend stays - $560.00

Charlton - Respite for caregivers with a child under the age of 18.  Your child stays in a group setting in a home-like environment  - allowing for social skill development, friendship/relationship building and community participation.

Charlton is open when school is closed i.e; Weekends year round, statutory holidays (except Family Day and Labour Day), March Break, Summer School Break and Christmas Break.

Charlton offers day visits (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), overnight weekend stays (Friday 6:00 p.m. to Sunday 5:00 p.m.) and week-long stays during July and August.

The group focuses on the development of social skills, building healthy relationships and enhancing basic life skills and activities of daily living such as meal preparation, shopping and  household chores.

Children's Day Respite- Day Respite for Ages 6-18 on Saturdays and Sundays. Located in our renovated and fully accessible Leeming Site.

Days are filled with fun, meaningful and safe activities emphasizing recreation, crafts, community outings and relationship building.

Children and Youth who meet the eligibility criteria can be referred by Contact Hamilton,


This service is available through a fee for service arrangement at a rate of $50.00 per day. This is an excellent option for those families receiving SSAH funding who are hoping to expand the options available to their children.


Alternate Care - Planned and regular respite for a family with a child under the age of 18.  Your child stays in another family's home for a short-term arrangement - allowing opportunity for respite for your family.

Dragonfly Lodge Vacations - Respite for individuals and caregiversDragonfly Lodge offers both staff-supported vacations for clients as well as rentals for the general public.  The cottage is located in Rockwood, Ontario, on the grounds of Camp Brebeuf.

Supported vacations- available for clients currently supported through Community Living Hamilton.  Client visits to the cottage are age appropriate and person-directed.  Activities can include day trips, swimming at the lake and canoeing. 

The cottage is available for weekend stays all year round (Friday 5:00 p.m. to Sunday 4:00 p.m.) and for week-long stays during June, July and August (Monday 9:00 a.m. to Friday 4:00 p.m.).

Client visits to Dragonfly Lodge are funded in part by the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton.

Rentals- Dragonfly Lodge is available for rent to the general public from Labour Day weekend to Victoria Day weekend. A two-day minimum stay is required.  The cottage sleeps 11 people and offers over 2,400 square feet of living space.
